Frederick W. “Fred” Coogan – 63 – of 6608 Beecher Road, Hornell, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning (August 21, 2019) at his home. Born in Hornell on September 28, 1955, he was the son of Ralph & Pearl (Clark) Coogan. Fred grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1973). A resident of the Hornell area for most of his life, he owned and operated Fred Coogan Demolition & Construction. He was an expert in explosives and was licensed to demolish buildings with the use of dynamite. During his career, Fred was responsible for demolishing the Hornell Universalist Church on Church Street along with demolishing many homes and buildings, clearing the way for the St. James Mercy Hospital Expansion Project in the early 1990s. He was also a talented carpenter who built and remodeled many homes in the area. Fred was raised Catholic and had been a member of St. Ann’s Church. He loved the outdoors and truly enjoyed spending time with friends boating & skiing on Conesus Lake. Surviving are his fiancé, Diane Edwards; his brother, Ralph James “Jim” (Judy) Coogan of Conesus Lake; his sister, Teresa Jaycox of Almond; his nieces & nephews, Andrea Carty, Jamie Scalise, Tammy Hurlburt, Toni Boglev & Justin Jaycox; Diane’s children, Elaine Melkioty, Kristina Rischar, Megan Melkioty, Daniel Edwards & David Edwards; along with several cousins. A special “Thank You” to his cousins Joseph, Brenda, Sherri, and Jacqueline who meant so much to him. At Fred’s request there will be no calling hours. Gerald T. “Jerry” McCarthy – 60 – of Nashua, NH, formerly of Hornell, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in Las Vegas, NV. Born in Hornell on March 23, 1959, he was the son of Robert “Bob” & Joann (Oriheul) McCarthy. Jerry grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1978). He later attended Brockport State College. In 1980, Jerry moved to Newport Beach, CA and later lived in West Hollywood, CA where he owned & operated The Mother Lode Tavern for over 20 years. After selling his share of the business, he moved to Las Vegas, NV where he resided for about 10 years. While in Las Vegas, he worked several jobs, including truck driver. He returned to New York State and lived in Rochester for several years before moving to New Hampshire about a year ago. While living in Hornell, Jerry had been a member of St. Ann’s Church. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed rooting for Oakland Raiders. He had a deep love of music and was proud to be called a “Dead Head” and throughout the years had attended over 100 Grateful Dead Shows. Jerry is survived by his mother, Joann McCarthy of Nashua, NH; his sister, Kim (Sean) Fitzpatrick of Nashua, NH; his brother, Mike (Joann Tong) McCarthy of Charlottesville, VA; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews. The family of Gerald T. McCarthy will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where a Memorial Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2:00 PM with Deacon Bob McCormick officiating. A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Friday from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at The Main Place, 251 Main St., Hornell, NY where family & friends will be encouraged to share stories and “Tip a Glass” in Jerry’s honor. Final interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Michelle J. “Mikki” Remchuk – 61 – of 191Madison Ave., Hornell, died Wednesday morning (August 14, 2019) at her home, following a long illness. Born in Jonestown, PA on July 24, 1958, she was the daughter of Clarence “Sonny” McDonald. Mikki grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1976). Years later she earned her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Alfred State College. For about 10 years, Mikki operated a Home Day-Care Service and for about 5 years was employed at Gunlocke Corporation in Wayland assembling furniture. She later served as a department head at Wal-Mart in Hornell. In her younger years, Mikki enjoyed going to the Hornell VFW with her father. She was an avid reader, but more than anything else, she simply loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was married on September 10, 1977 to William “Bill” Remchuk who survives. Also surviving are her son, William “Bill” (Tanya) Remchuk, Jr. of Corning; her daughter, Tabitha Remchuk of Albion, NY; 4 grandchildren, Logan Remchuk, Brenna Remchuk, Evan Morse & Lexi Remchuk; several step-brothers & step-sisters. Dana M. Sawczyszyn – 60 – of 28 Green St., Canisteo, died unexpectedly Friday, August 9, 2019 at his home. Born in Blossburg, PA on August 19, 1958, he was the son of Michael & Ola (Simons) Sawczyszyn. Dana grew up in the Hornell-Arkport area and attended Arkport Central School. He later earned his General Education Degree (GED) from the University of Albany. For many years, Dana served as office manager for Ed Degnan, Attorney-at-Law in Canisteo. Along with his duties as office manager, he often worked with clients, served important papers & filed legal documents. He also owned & operated Four Season Animal Damage Control, carefully trapping & releasing wildlife that had moved their way into homes and businesses. Dana was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing & trapping. He was a member of the New York State Tri-County Trappers Association for several years, holding official offices within that time. On February 14th, 1996, Dana married Rhonda Aultman on a live segment of the Brother Wease Morning Circus radio show on WCMF-FM/AM with 26 other couples. They were married for 23 years before Rhonda passed away on March 25th, 2019 following a long illness. One of Dana’s hobbies was smart gambling. He spent many hours researching gambling techniques and traveled to various casinos and cities to utilize his knowledge. Cities and casinos Dana visited with Rhonda included Atlantic City, Turning Stone Casino, Salamanca, Hamburg, Batavia, Niagara Falls, Nichols & Monticello. Dana was a very compassionate man who enjoyed simply spending time talking & laughing with his many friends. He will be missed by them, as well as by the many “feline friends” he provided care for. Surviving Dana is his daughter, Sarah (Jason) Platt of Suffern, NY. Also surviving are Brenda Lee (Danielle) Miller and Michael Mosher; and from the Rauber, McDaniel and Sawczyszyn families–multiple siblings, several cousins, and many beloved nieces and nephews. At Dana’s request there will be no calling hours, but family & friends are invited to a “Farewell Toast” on Sunday, August 18th at 2:00 pm at Kanakadea Park, where stories of Dana will be shared in honor of his memory. On August 5, 2019 in the year of our Lord, Mary Lois Hedges Grimm, a dedicated and loving wife to Jim Grimm joined him and her mother “Hedgie” at Heaven’s Gate. Mary Lois was born at St. James Hospital on July 15, 1925 and was the daughter of Artimus & Ester (Wilkins) Hedges and the step-daughter of Thomas Dean. She will be remembered as a life-long member of Park United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She also mentored teachers along with her four children, Carol Marie, Paul James, Mary Beth and Rebecca Sue, in the ways of the Lord. Mary Lois was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1943 and spent several years active in her alumni class projects. To honor her in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hornell High School Memorial Scholarship Fund. She was a dedicated partner in several family businesses, most notably Memory Studio and Tree Barn. Mary Lois was president of the local chapter of the American Field Service through which she gained another son, Ronnie Ball and allowed her daughter, Mary Beth, to spend a summer in Uganda (Africa). Mary Lois was preceded in death by her husband, James Grimm; mother, Ester Wilkens Hedges Dean; father Artimus Hedges; stepfather Thomas Dean; uncles Raymond, Charles, Lymon, and Harold Wilkins. Left to honor her are her children, Carol Marie (John) LaSalle of Jupiter, FL, Paul James (Brenda) Grimm of Marshall, TX, Mary Beth (Carl) Lindquist of Greensboro, NC and Rebecca Sue (Ralph) Bailey of Bradford, PA; her brothers, David (Barbara) Hedges of Hornell, NY, Phillip (Nancy) Hedges of North Augusta, SC. Also left to honor her are 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Kelly D. Beckstrom – 57 – of Hornell, formerly of Arkport, died early Sunday morning (August 4, 2019) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness. Born in Wellsville, NY on May 25, 1962, she was the daughter of Robert & Sandra (Dickerson) Boyd. Kelly grew up in the Wellsville / Scio areas and was a graduate of Scio High School (class of 1980). She later attended Alfred State College. For many years, Kelly was a “Stay At Home Mom” and more recently was employed as a cashier at Cy’s Shurfine, now Arkport Shurfine, in Arkport, NY. She had been a member of the Arkport Presbyterian Church. Kelly’s main enjoyment in life was simply spending time with her family and especially loved the time she spent with her grandson, Colton. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dakota Beckstrom and also her brother, Jason Boyd. Surviving are 4 daughters, Taylor Richardson of Hornell, Bailey (Douglas Smith) Richardson of Concord, NC, Kelcy Beckstrom of Almond and Victoria Beckstrom of Cohocton; her mother, Sandra Rowley of Wellsville; her father, Robert (Lorraine) Boyd of Cincinnati, OH; her grandson, Colton Smith; 2 brothers, Brian Boyd of Buffalo, NY and Jamie Boyd of Sparks, NV; several nieces & nephews. The family of Kelly D. Elizabeth J. “Betty “ Gangemi, 93, currently residing in Cortland, NY, previously of Hornell, NY passed away early Sunday morning (August 4, 2019) at the Cortland Park Nursing Facility in Cortland, NY. She was born in Wayne, NY, on March 31, 1926 to Robert and Estella (Rutherford) Black. She resided in the Corning, NY area until May 1946, when she married Nicholas Gangemi and moved to Hornell. She resided in Groton from 2014 until moving to Cortland earlier this year. While living in Hornell, Betty was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and later St. Ann’s Church. For many years she served as bookkeeper for Nick’s Mobile, a service station owned & operated by her husband, Nick. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and belonged to a women’s bowling league and also a “couples league”, playing with her husband, Nick. She also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas, on August 23, 2012. She was also predeceased by her parents, by two brothers, Robert Black and Theodore Black of Corning, and a sister Eleanor (Black, Bliss) Harrau of Lawrenceville PA. She is survived by one daughter Linda (Stephen) Gobel of Cortland, NY, and two grandsons, Eric Gobel of Chicago, IL and Andrew (Marisa) Gobel of Homer, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Thomas G. “Tom” Gilleran – 76 – of Hornell, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning (July 31, 2019) at his home. Born in Albany, NY on September 27, 1942, he was the son of George & Frances (Klos) Gilleran. Tom grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of St. Ann’s School. He later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1960). Following high school graduation, Tom attended Alfred University where he majored in Chemical Engineering. He was employed for many years at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) as a computer technician, retiring about 17 years ago. Tom had been member a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing chess and watching baseball (especially the NY Mets & LA Dodgers) on TV. He also enjoyed horse racing and his many trips to the race track. He was preceded by his father, George T. Gilleran, his mother, Frances E. Gilleran in death by his nephew, Andrew Attinasi. Surviving are his sister, Mary Ann (Daniel) Attinasi of Rochester; his nephew, Daniel (Johanna) Attinasi; his niece, Christine (Vince) LaTerra; two great nieces, Drew Attinasi and Mary Jo LaTerra; along with several cousins. Kathleen M. “Kathy” Durso – 57 – a resident of Corning Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare, formerly of Hornell, died early Saturday morning (July 27, 2019) at Corning Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Hornell on February 27, 1962, she was the daughter of Michael & Mary Lou (Walters) Durso. Kathy grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1980). She later received an Associate’s Degree from Alfred State College. She resided in California for 25 years and had been employed for an insurance company. She returned to the Hornell area about 10 years ago to help take care of her mother, following the death of her father. She was preceded in death by her father who died April 12, 2005. Surviving are her mother, Mary Lou Durso of Hornell; 2 brothers, Michael (Rose) Durso of Half Moon Bay, CA and Stephen (Susette) Durso of Carpinteria, CA; 2 sisters, Cindy (Rick) Hasler of Dayton, OH and Chrissy (Doug) Taggert of North Hornell; 8 nieces & nephews, Joe (Melissa) Durso, Jim (Bree) Durso, Alexis Durso, Jennifer (Chris) Pawelski, Lindsay Hasler, Matthew (Kristen) Taggert, Melissa (Chris) Squeglia and Lisa (Josh) Nichols; great nieces & great nephews. Mathilda M. “Mickey” Slenker – 79 – of 110 Elizabeth St., Hornell, died Sunday evening (July 21, 2019) at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, following a brief illness. Born in St. Louis, MO on December 17, 1939, she was the daughter of Melchior & Elizabeth (Eckrick) Haefele. Mickey grew up in St. Louis where she graduated from high school (class of 1957). She later graduated from St. Louis City Hospital School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nurses License. Residing in Warren, OH for about four years, Mickey was employed as a registered nurse and also a nurse anesthetist. She has resided in the Hornell area since 1980 and had been employed as a registered nurse at both St. James Mercy Hospital and the former Bethesda Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Loretta Haefele and Elizabeth Ferry. Surviving are 2 sons, Leo (Melissa) Slenker of Kansas City, MO and John (Jennifer) Slenker of Alexander, NY; 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Thomas, Benjamin, Claire & Anna; several nieces & nephews. Leo J. DelRossa, Jr., 76, of Penn Yan, NY, died Friday evening, July 12, 2019, at Hildebrandt Hospice Care in Rochester, NY. Born in Penn Yan on December 2, 1942, he was the son of Leo and Rose (Ribble) DelRossa. Leo grew up in Dresden, NY, and was a graduate of Penn Yan Academy. He had resided in Penn Yan since the age of 19. At a very young age, Leo began working for his father at DelRossa Ford Tractor & Implement in Penn Yan. He was active in the family business for his entire life, managing DelRossa Ford—later Torrey Auto—in Dresden for 45 years. Leo was an award-winning mechanic and sales representative. He trained for, practiced, and mastered every aspect of the business including service calls, sales, mechanical service and repairs, accounting, and facility maintenance. Customer service was natural to this man who was loved by so many. Leo attended St. Michael’s Church in Penn Yan. He was a member of the American Legion and many clubs, including the Elks, Moose, Duck Hunters, Penn Yan Hunting, and Himrod Field and Stream Conservation. Leo was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an excellent cook. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. Leo was famously generous towards family, friends, and customers—and sometimes for complete strangers in need—there was no kindness that Leo would not do. To be touched by Leo’s unselfishness was to feel the Holy Spirit in action. Surviving are his father, Leo J. DelRossa of Dresden; his longtime companion, Carol O’Keane of Rochester; a son, Leo J. “Skip” (Cindy Thompson) DelRossa, III; daughters Lena (John) McDermott of Hornell, NY and Christina DelRossa of Dundee, NY; brothers Alan (Joyce) DelRossa of Dresden, Erwin “Rocky” (Ginny Robinson) DelRossa of North Rose, NY, Jeff (Mary) DelRossa of Pittsburgh, PA, and Michael (Braedy) DelRossa of Geneva, NY; sisters Betty (Jerry) Masters of Geneva, Michelle “Mikki” (Eric) Sheldon of Dresden, Myra (Rick) Adsitt of Geneva, Dale Wood of Penn Yan, and Marcia (Tim) Gunkler of Penn Yan; grandchildren Britni (Jacob) Wilmot, Devon Forman, Alaina (David) Wilcox-McDermott, and Kelcie (Andrew) Lewis; great-grandchildren Caden Wilmot, Riley Wilmot, and Cullen Lewis; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jeanne E. Stearns – (89) – of 3 Henry St., Arkport, died Thursday morning (July 4, 2019) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility, following a long illness. Born in North Hornell on November 28, 1929, she was the daughter of Edward & Alta (Snyder) Jeffery. Jeanne grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1948). She later graduated from Columbia School of Nursing in New York City where she earned her Registered Nurses License. In the upcoming years, she continued taking classes in keeping with her license. From 1958 – 1989, Jeanne served as School Nurse at Arkport Central School. For about 8 years, she was employed as a registered nurse at St. James Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1996. Jeanne was a member of the Arkport Presbyterian Church and also the Hornell Alumni Association. She had a deep affection for animals and throughout the years owned many dogs & cats. She was a longtime supporter of the Hornell Humane Society and also the SPCA. Always ready to help others, Jeanne “took-in” countless children and young adults into her home, giving them a place to stay because they were having troubles at home. She will be remembered as a loving & caring woman who was an asset to the entire community. Jeanne was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Pat Tiemersma and Alyce Brown. Surviving are 3 sons, William (Linda) Stearns of Arkport, Martin (Bea) Stearns of Menifee, CA and Mitchell (Gina) Stearns of Hildebran, NC; 1 daughter, Denise (Sam) Spear of Lockport, NY; 1 sister, Kathleen Wilson of Frederick, MD; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. Warren L. LaFlamme – 48 – of 5914 County Route 64, Hornell, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon (June 22, 2019) at his home. Born in Mt. Vernon, IL on June 28, 1970, he was the son of Warren & Nadine (Dubois) Laflamme. Warren grew up in Mt. Vernon, IL where he graduated from high school. He later received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Illinois University (SIU). Throughout the years, he resided in many locations and has lived in the Hornell area for the past three years. Warren was a spiritual man who had a deep love of music and enjoyed playing guitar and also enjoyed playing video games. Charles E. “Charlie” Carmen – 76 – of 16 Ransom St., Hornell, formerly of Thacher St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning (June 11, 2019) at his home. Born on April 27, 1943, he was the son of Donald & Rose (Baxter) Carmen. Charlie resided in Cobleskill, NY for many years and has lived in the Hornell area for the past 25 years. He had been employed as a truck driver for most of his adult life and had been employed as a delivery man for Bathrick’s Florist of Hornell. He was a devoted member of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Arkport and was also an avid fisherman. Charlie is survived by 2 sisters, Ella Smith and Rose Marie Carmen; his half-brother, Stewart Utter; his half-sister, Carol Acquaviva; along with many friends in the Hornell area. At Charlie’s request there will be on calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Katherine A. Hoyt – 96 – of 24 Ransom St., Hornell, died early Monday morning (June 10, 2019) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Elmira on July 8, 1922, she was the daughter of Charles & Levenia (Artlip) Krakat. She has resided in Hornell for most of her life. Katherine was a 1942 graduate of Hornell High School. She had been employed for about 25 years at the former Kieser Glove Factory and later worked for the Marion Rohr Corporation for an additional 25 years. She was a Member of Christ Episcopal Church. She was married in 1978 to Lloyd “Chet” Hoyt who died in 1999. Katherine is survived by several nieces & nephews; her dear friends, Mary Lou Markham & Jack Generalli along with her loving caregivers. At Katherine’s request there will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Carl A. Mauro, 87, of 94 East Main Street, Hornell, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening (June 4, 2019) atSt. James Mercy Hospital. Born in Hornell on May 6, 1932, he was the son of Dominic “Mickey” & Angela (Parrillo) Mauro. Carl grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1950). While in high school, he participated in all sports and was a member of the very successful 1950 Basketball Team. Carl and Jean Paul were married on May 10, 1952. Jean passed in 2014 after their 62 years of marriage. They have four children: Steve, who is a mechanical engineer and served as an officer in the US Marine Corps; Carl, Jr. who has retired from the US Air Force; Mary, who has had a real estate business in Texas; and Lucy, who is a pianist and college professor. Carl and Jean have nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He initially worked for five years for the Erie Railroad in the maintenance and switch yard departments. He also worked for Foster Wheeler Corporation in Dansville, NY for 25 years in their Dansville and Dallas, TX plants. During this period, Carl attended the State University at Alfred, Rochester Institute of Technology, and A.M.A. in New York City, for industrial engineering and management courses and certification. His positions at Foster Wheeler were in industrial engineering and plant management. Carl moved his family to Dansville, NY, Dallas, TX and later to Williamsport, PA, where he worked for Pullman Power Corporation in engineering and plant management, producing major steel assemblies for nuclear power plants. He also worked for Johnson Controls Corporation and Fuller Corporation and had return assignments to Foster Wheeler and Pullman Power. Carl started his own consulting business and had a major assignment with Hoffman New Yorker Corporation of New Jersey where he designed a two-story manufacturing plant in Dushore, PA, and also helped with efficient product design and manufacturing. During his stay in Dansville, NY, Carl was involved in village government, and he was very proud of being appointed village Water Commissioner by both the Republican and Democrat mayor. Carl was both an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed golf. After semi-retirement, he and his wife Jean returned to Hornell. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. Carl was dedicated to his entire family, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and devoted to his faith. His greatest joy was in taking care of his family and home. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Salvatore “Tootie” Mauro; 2 sisters-in-law, Marguerite Mauro and Anne Mauro; his son-in-law, Harald Strauss. Surviving are 2 sons, Steve Mauro of Williamsport, PA and Carl Mauro, Jr. of Whitefish, MT; 2 daughters, Mary Strauss of Rockwall, TX and Lucy Mauro of Morgantown, WV; 2 brothers, Joseph Mauro of Hornell and Francis “Buzz” Mauro of Hammondsport, NY; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces & nephews. The family of Carl A. Mauro will receive friends on Monday from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Russell N. Storrs – 56 – formerly of 52 State St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Monday morning (June 3, 2019) in Hornell. Born in Wayland, NY on November 11, 1962, he was the son of Harold & Loretta (Urbanik) Storrs. Russell grew up in Conesus, NY and was a graduate of Livonia High School (class of 1982). Throughout the years, Russell resided in many locations, including Hemlock, Springwater, Cohocton, Avoca & Prattsburgh. He had been employed for about 4 years at Alliance Tool & Die in Honeoye Falls, NY and for about 5 years worked for ENI Corporation in Henrietta, NY, a company which makes components for computers. He had also been employed at Philips Lighting in Bath and most recently worked in the maintenance department for Kemps Bus Company in Lakeville, NY. Russell had a deep love and affection for music. Music was in his blood from the time that he was old enough to play. He was currently in a band with his brothers, Harold & Wayne called 3SB. Russell was the bass player, lead singer and wrote & co-wrote their original music. They all started playing many, many years ago with their father, Harold Storrs, Sr. At the time of Russell’s death, the band was finalizing details of an up-coming show. Without a doubt, music was one of the most important things in his life. He also enjoyed “Rock Painting” and was a member of “Rockin Hornell” — a group of people that would paint rocks and place them around the community simply to brighten people’s day. He also donated his painted rocks to the AMVETS in Hornell. Russell had a deep love for his entire family. His greatest joy, however, was simply being active in his children’s lives. He loved them dearly!! He was married on November 1, 1986 to the former Diane Shafer who survives. Also surviving are his son, Rik (Amanda) Storrs of Hornell; his daughter, Emilee (Christopher) Canuti of Hornell; 2 sisters, Sue (Randy) Goater of Brockport, NY and Debbie Pierson of Livonia; 4 brothers, Harold (Katrina) Storrs Jr. of Cohocton, Wayne Storrs of Hornell, Scotty Anderz (Storrs) and Bill Storrs of Arkport; his step-grandson, Ryder Canuti; many nieces & nephews. At Russell’s request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Geneseo, NY will be held at the convenience of the family. Felicia J. Rohalla – 95 – of formerly of 79 Elizabeth St., Hornell, died Sunday morning (June 2, 2019) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility where she had resided for the past two years. A native & life resident of Hornell, she was born April 19, 1924, and was the daughter of Giacomo & Jenny (Armetta) Grillo. Felicia was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and attended Hornell High School. She was employed for 26 years at the former Merrill Hosiery and for 10 years at the former Huguets Textile Corporation. She also worked at several restaurants in Hornell, including the Sun Set Inn, the Ponce DeLeon and the Big Elms Restaurant. Felicia was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. She was a member of the Ladies of Columbus for many years. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing the NYS Lottery. In 1985, she was rewarded when she won $25,000.00 playing “Instant Lotto.” She was married in 1968 to Walter Rohalla who died in 1969. She was also preceded in death by2 brothers, John Grillo and Joseph Grillo; and two sisters, Rosemary Lombardy and Mary Diaello; 2 brothers-in-law, Tony Diaello & Donald Lombardy. Surviving are 2 sisters-in-law, Jane Grillo of Hornell and Shirley Grillo of Belmont, NY; nieces & nephews. The family of Felicia J. Hornell – Julio “Bozo” Cartella, 91, of Locust Drive, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning (May 28, 2019) at Elizabeth Church Manor Nursing Home in Binghamton, NY. Born in Hornell on March 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Angelo and Josephine (Marino) Cartella. On November 9, 1952, he was married at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Brooklyn, NY to Nancy Andreozzi. A lifelong resident of Hornell, Julio was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and past Commander of the Hornell VFW Post 2250 and American Legion Post 440. In life, he served his community in several jobs but was best known for working for Erie Lackawanna Railroad, starting a grocery delivery business “City Delivery” with his brother Pete, and working for 34 years at the local telephone company. In December 1968, Julio was recognized as a hero for saving the life of a local youth after discovering a partially submerged car over an embankment while on a nighttime delivery for the telephone company. Always generous and jovial, he enjoyed traveling and making friends wherever he was, his yearly excursions to Key West, camping with his family, and helping others. He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend but most of all known as everyone’s “Bozo” for his sense of humor. He was preceded in death by brothers Francis and Peter; sisters Mary (infant), Mary Andrezzi, Angeline Eason, and Rose Conine, and great grandson Joseph “Joey” Rymanowski. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy of 66 years, son Angelo “Michael” (Cynthia) Cartella of Canisteo, daughters Mary Ann (William) Valentine of Canisteo, Antoinette “Toni” (Dennis) Flint of Greenwood, and Josephine “Jo Ann” (James) Rheinheimer of Binghamton; brothers Carl (Mary) Cartella of Hornell, Francis “Butch” (Beth) Cartella of Almond; sister Josephine “Josie” Brown of Hornell; his brother-in-law, David T. Andrezzi of Hornell; goddaughter Josephine “Joann” Kuhn of Hornell; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to specially thank the nurses and aides of Elizabeth Church Manor for the exceptional care and compassion given to Julio during his stay. The family of Julio Cartella will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church Street, Hornell NY. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday 11:00 AM at Dagon Funeral Home with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery. Julio had a profound love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
